Western Red Cedar and Java Teak deck and patio furniture require very little care. However, if you want to "winterize" your cedar or teak outdoor furniture, you will want to prepare it properly.

Most people will use outdoor furniture covers or some type of storage shed or unit to keep their cedar and teak deck and patio furniture protected during the winter months. Others may prefer to treat their cedar and teak furniture with oils or sealants. However, I prefer a completely different approach.

Why not PROTECT and USE your outdoor furniture during the winter? It is possible and easier than you may think. With the use of a canvas gazebo including add-on side panels and a patio heater you both protect and comfortably use your deck and patio furniture. There are also similar structures, other than a canvas gazebo, that can be used.

Greenhouses, portable garages, event tents, or self-made structures can also be used during the winter to both protect and use your outdoor furniture. Using patio heaters, chimineas, or outdoor fire pits will provide a warm, comfortable enclosure. Please be careful to take the necessary safety precautions with heat sources and make sure you have proper ventilation.

Whether you use outdoor furniture covers, storage or other structures to protect your outdoor furniture, it is best to at least hand wash cedar and teak deck and patio furniture with a mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and make sure it is completely dry before covering or storing.
